About my walks
If you subscribe to my channel (if not, you should!) you know I enjoy my morning walks.
I get a lot of questions about them so I figure I should explain more.
I started taking morning walks many years ago after I moved into my second house. Back then I would take them in the woods. Nowadays in the city I walk around the nearby lake/canal.
My walks are first thing in the morning. I set everything I need out the night before so I can just put my activewear on and jump into my shoes without having to look for things at 6 am.
For me walking is good on so many levels so I walk rain or shine. Having taken my walk means I don’t need to think about cardio exercise for the rest of the day. I get to listen to my favorite podcasts or audio books so it’s a treat. Walking also clears the cobwebs from my mind and I always feel better, body and soul, after walking.
I say walking and it is a walk, not a run, but it’s a fast paced, one hour walk, just shy of a slow jog. Actually sometimes I’m almost overtaking the person slow jogging which gives you an idea of the tempo. I definitely get my heart rate up and break a sweat so it IS exercise, not a leisurely stroll.
And yes, I do walk in the dark. I’m a morning person and since I go first thing after I wake up it’s dark for a big portion of the year. The area is well lit though and I feel perfectly safe. Also I love how quiet it is at that time of day.
As for winter, I just layer more clothes and add ice gripper and off I go!
I pretty much walk daily but there are some occasions where I skip my walks and that’s if I know I’ll be walking a lot during the day. That’s mostly on weekends. I also skip if I have a bad cold. If my wonky knee is acting up too much I may rest it for a day but I rarely skip two days in a row for that reason.
I don’t have a ton of gear, basically one hot weather set with shorts and tank top. One basic gear with leggings, t-shirt and jacket and one cold weather set with fleece lined leggings, long sleeve shirt, fleece, warmer socks. If it gets very cold I just add any wooly sweater on top of what I already wear. Also active bra, socks and shoes all year around + hat, mittens and scarf in winter. Some of the garments I’ve had for many years, even a decade, so I have no links but here are a few of the items or very similar for those of you who have been asking.
